Just before my trip, I decided to use my laptop and tablet at a figure drawing session. I've posted two studies from that day, both made using Corel Painter; a long necked lady and a morbid looking lifeless body.

Artists can be a conservative, technophobic bunch, so I knew my setup might provoke a bit of a reaction. Sure enough, killjoys peered dismissively over their easels. One lady felt it important to express her disdain for bank machines and technology in general. Thankfully, the majority had the courage to ask questions or leave me be.

The size of my screen was the only significant source of irritation. Most compelling was the freedom to bounce between mediums and colours at a whim. I'd also have to say I feel more inclined to experiment when I'm not burning through trees. The lack of mess and ease of transportation are high on my list of points worth mentioning.

I try to avoid talking about computers as an improvement on- or even imperfect replacement for- more traditional mediums. They are simply an excellent tool in their own right.
