Craig owns a sailboat. In the afternoon, we circumnavigated Newcastle Island and Protection Island, just off the coast of Nanaimo. It was beautiful, but I can't say it was calming. The waters are filled with an almost comedic number of recklessly driven boats, seals, stray logs, and small planes preparing for take-off.
At one point, Craig dropped our dingy into the water, nearly sinking it and causing me, the painfully novice helmsman, to lose control-- mostly because I was trying to see what all the swearing was about. For one hair-raising moment, we were headed for certain death, careening into the path of an oncoming barge. Fortunately, I live to tell a tale of high adventure at sea! Arrh.
