Nanaimo was a surprise for me. I'd envisioned a small logging town of ugly shacks and boxy grey liquor stores. At a hundred and fourty thousand, the population was several times larger than expected and the city's appearance and heritage were obviously valued by the municipality. The downtown's winding streets are lined with quaint restaurants and shops, and the harbour walk is glorious. Apparently there's been less demand for the surrounding resources, so it makes sense that tourism would take over in such an idyllic location.
Now that I've had my eyes opened, I'm looking forward to picking up my film in a few weeks. Big thanks to Craig, Jenni and Raya for their hospitality!
